We are really enjoying our Kevin Henkes author study. Today we read Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse and Lilly's Big Day. We made tear paper Lilly's and wrote why we liked her.
We talked about what we could measure with if we did not have rulers, measuring tape or yard sticks. The class came up with lots of other options, but we finally decided our feet would be the easiest. We all traced our feet, cut them out and measured different things around the room.
We have had a busy day and it is only 12 o'clock. We did our journals, read many versions of the Three Bears and did our guided reading groups. After reading the different versions of the story we talked about the characters, setting, events and ending of the stories. We discussed how they were similar and different. Then they all completed a story log to show the different parts of the story. They are excited about the Teddy Bear Picnic tomorrow, hope to see you there!
Today we read Corduroy and then wrote about our favorite part of the story and illustrated it. This afternoon we have been working on making teddy bears to decorate the hall outside our room.

Wow! I have gotten really behind with this. Sorry. I will be better this week. Hope you had a great 3 day weekend. We have a beary fun filled week this week talking about teddy bears. Hope to see you at the Teddy Bear Picnic Friday!
This afternoon, Mrs. Deakins, our science teacher came by with her microscopes and let the class look at crystals. Yesterday in science they were learning about snowflakes and talking about crystals. They really enjoyed using the microscopes.
Welcome back! I can't believe it is 2010! I hope you had a fabulous holiday and that the kids are ready to come back to school. I can't wait to see everyone. We have a new student, Reese Ham, who will be joining our class. She is very sweet and will make a great addition to our class.
